Abstract

Andropause is a decrease in the secretion of sex hormone levels resulting in physiological and psychological changes that occur within a few years. Andropause can cause several symptoms including baldness in the head, increased blood pressure, irritability, decreased libido, decreased testicular size, lack of concentration. Andropause can occur faster  (early) due to the influence of various factors, one of which is obesity as measured by body mass index (BMI, in Indonesia IMT). Obese men tend to experience andropause faster than normal body mass index men. The study aims at determining the relationship of body mass index with the risk of early andropause. This research uses analytic research with cross sectional design. The samples in this study were 55 men under the age of 50 with the work of taxi drivers. In this research, the height and weight of the respondents were measured and then the respondents were asked to fill in the questionnaire. The highest number of respondents who experience the risk of early andropause are in the criteria of obesity II, while the highest number of respondents who have not experienced early andropause are in the criteria for normal BMI. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test found a significance value of p = 0.003, where p <0.005, so it can be said that BMI has a significant relationship with the risk of early andropause. The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and the risk of early andropause.
