Abstract
This research discusses the importance of Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) cooperative learning to improve the argumentation skills of Catholic Religious Education students. This research uses a qualitative methodology with three methods of collecting observations, interviews and document analysis. This research was carried out at Santo Yoseph Middle School in Medan and the target of the research was class VII middle school students. The research results show that the STAD model increases student involvement and interaction in learning Catholic religion. The application of STAD has a positive impact on students' argumentation abilities, increasing their courage in expressing opinions and formulating arguments. Teachers play a key role in creating a learning environment that supports active student participation. Although the STAD model has advantages such as improving students' social and academic skills, challenges such as lack of argumentative abilities and social skills need to be overcome. These findings have important implications for the development of more inclusive and interactive learning strategies in education, not only in Catholic religious subjects. This research highlights the importance of collaborative approaches in improving students' skills, such as argumentation abilities, which are relevant for education as a whole.
